We have teamed up with Circular Flow whose mission is to create a sustainable circular economy for neoprene waste and to stop millions of neoprene products ending up in landfill.
As a community of cold water surfers we rely on wetsuits all year round. The average consumer lifecycle of a wetsuit is estimated at 24-36 months and for a surf school wetsuit is 12-18 months. The need to recycle/upcycle neoprene waste is a pressing environmental issue that we, as cold water surfers, need to tackle and provide solutions.
To meet this challenge, we are stoked to team up with Circular Flow and be able to offer a closed loop recycling scheme for all wetsuits bought at Bundoran Surf Co from January 1st 2021 onwards.
The process is simple – get your suit (must be clean and dry) back to us in the shop when you have finished with it and we will send the suits to Circular Flow, who will then repurpose this neoprene into new products such as wetsuit accessories, yoga and gaming mats, backpacks, hoodies, and pencil cases.
We will also be using Circular Flow for our damaged surf school and rental wetsuits that are not suitable for repair or resale.
So if you bought a suit from us anytime from January 1st 2021 onwards and want to recycle it, then get it to us and lets start this process.
Our first take back window will be for the month of May 2023.There will be future take back windows later in the year for old suits but going forward all new suits bought in Surf Co can be returned to us at the end of their lifecycle and we will send them to Circular Flow.
